@delores I can only help with things I have encountered myself (which means mostly the Debian/Ubuntu/CentOS/Fedora/Gentoo ways to do things), but I may be able to voicechat over #Mumble or #Wire or #Matrix sometime this weekend. I am working extra hours and in a foreign land, so calls with family take priority over everything else. -

@bob @bobjonkman While I'm still awaiting #Wire's promised federation, #Matrix is still problematic because of the way their E2EE works.
Could there be a funding source that influenced #Purism's decision? -

@bob #Wire has promised to implement federation (which is why I was willing to try it). For most of my uses (1:1 or small group chats), it blows #Matrix (via Riot Web, Riot Android, Riot iOS) out of the water.
IMO, at its current stage of development, Matrix/Riot is not suitable for nontechnical users, but I actually have family members communicating with me on Wire. -

@bob @buttle I have around 5 encrypted #Riot / #Matrix chats that we're not using much anymore. Most of the time, #Wire does what I wanted, without the frustration.

I'm told it is better now, but I've seen some of the annoyances less than a week ago. -

@strypey Between November and February. Some change required us all to reconnect as contacts. Reconnecting never completed, so communication over #Ring was no longer possible.

What do you fedizens think of the recent privacy policy changes made by #matrix.org? My #riot client tells me that I have to agree with them to continue using it. Did you find anything objectionable there? I read it, but just want to ask around a bit.

@mike @maiyannah I like #Wire.
Positives: For 1:1 chats, it is vastly superior to #Matrix. I believe E2E encrypted by default.
Negatives: Contact list management is still not good, and the promised #federation has not yet appeared. I eventually want to !selfhost my communications infrastructure, or at least anything that isn't #P2P. -
